Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) reiterated his plan to fine businesses for requiring proof of a COVID vaccine earlier this week. The governor signed a bill in May which will go into effect September 16th. The bill will allow the state of Florida to fine businesses if people are required to show a vaccine card before being allowed to shop. This includes schools, businesses, and government buildings. The legislation states that each business, school, or government building will face a $5,000 fine for each violation. However, it does give a chance to appeal the fine. “If a government agency in the state of Florida forces a vaccine as a condition of employment, that violates Florida law and you will face a $5,000 fine for every single violation..." -DeSantis DeSantis has been one of the nation's most prominent governors leading in vaccination accessibility. However, he is entirely against vaccine mandates. “These mandates, this is not about science — because if it was about science, you would recognize the infection conferred immunity. Israel did a study. They said it [natural immunity] was much, much more protective than the Pfizer vaccine. Cleveland clinic did a study, same thing. Every single credible study always shows that it [natural immunity] provides good protection. And so that’s just the reality.” DeSantis has been highly praised for his common sense approach to COVID-19, and he is one of conservatives' top choices as either a 2024 presidential candidate, or as a vice president to President Donald Trump. Trump has teased picking DeSantis as his running mate come 2024.
