Female CNN staffers are reportedly threatening to leave the network unless host Don Lemon is fired, according to a new report from the Daily Mail. Lemon has been at the center of controversy since last week, when he claimed that women over the age of 40 -- specifically Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley -- are "past their prime." Lemon made the statement during the network's morning show, "CNN This Morning," to the disapproval of his female co-hosts. During the show, the hosts brought up Haley's suggestion that politicians over 75 should be required to take mental fitness tests. It was at that point that Lemon stated that “Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry,” and that hearing her talk about the topic made him "uncomfortable." Rumors swirled that CNN's new CEO Chris Licht planned to fire Lemon, but a leaked email from Licht said otherwise. While Licht did not fire Lemon, he did announce that the host would have to receive some form of "formal training" due to the incident. The email read: "I sat down with Don and had a frank and meaningful conversation. He has agreed to participate in formal training, as well as continuing to listen and learn. We take this situation very seriously." Licht further chastised Lemon, claiming that the comment was "upsetting, unacceptable, and unfair." Lemon apologized at a CNN staff meeting on Friday, CNN reported.

Another stated that "he needs to make his vacation a permanent one." "The women of CNN are angry. He's made it impossible to do their jobs. He's an embarrassment to the network and needs to go." "People are hurt by his actions and are not going to let this go. It is like every woman over 50 in America has taken this as a personal insult. The female staffers at CNN definitely have. He needs to make his vacation a permanent one." "There is not one person at CNN who thinks that he should remain on air. He knows how badly he screwed up and he also knows that he cannot talk his way out of this one. His apology meant nothing." A CNN spokesperson denied that Lemon was being pushed to resign. Lemon returned to CNN broadcasting on Wednesday. Have comments? Share them below. Recently, The Informed Youth announced our Insiders initiative.
