Kentucky Legislators Override Democrat Governor's Veto, Pass Bill Banning Sex Changes For Minors3/29/2023
On Wednesday, Kentucky lawmakers voted to pass a bill to stop doctors from prescribing "gender-affirming" medications for citizens under the age of 18, overturning Democratic Governor Andy Beshear's veto. The bill also requires students to use school restrooms matching their biological sexes.
Both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to defy Beshear, who vetoed the bill last week. Once in effect, the law will give Kentucky teachers the right to refuse to follow a student's "preferred pronouns" in the classroom. It will also outlaw gender reassignment surgeries for minors and stop doctors from giving puberty blockers to those under the age of adulthood. The state Senate voted 29-8 in favor of overriding the veto. The House later confirmed the decision with a 76-23 vote. During voting, protesters against the bill gathered outside of the state Capitol.

Kentucky is now one of 11 states that have taken action to prevent minors from getting irreversible "gender-affirming" procedures & to protect underage Americans from certain medications. The list of states continues to grow, but currently includes:
