Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order Monday entirely banning vaccine mandates in the state by all employers, including private employers. He announced: No entity in Texas can compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccine by any individual, including an employee or a consumer, who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19. I hereby suspend all relevant statutes to the extent necessary to enforce this prohibition. Abbott banned government entities from imposing vaccine mandates earlier. This new executive order, however, is the first in Texas to effect all businesses. Abbott praised the vaccine, but reminded Texans that the decision to vaccinate must be a choice. He said, "“COVID-19 vaccines are strongly encouraged for those eligible to receive one, but must always be voluntary for Texans.” At the beginning of the pandemic, Abbott imposed several unconstitutional COVID orders, as did most governors. However, as he has lost more and more support, he has taken a stand against the overreach of the government. Abbott said that this new order will remain in effect "unless it is modified, amended, rescinded, or superseded by the governor. This executive order may also be amended by proclamation of the governor.” He did, however, encourage the Texas legislature to pass a law with the same effect. If such a law were to pass, the executive order would be rescinded. Abbott's order comes in response to Joe Biden's federal vaccine mandate that required all businesses with over 100 employees to force COVID-19 vaccinations on staff. Following Biden's decree, at least 25 states threatened to sue the Biden administration, including Texas. Abbott noted the mandate, saying that in “yet another instance of federal overreach, the Biden Administration is now bullying many private entities into imposing COVID-19 vaccine mandates, causing workplace disruptions.” Credit to Fox News In September, Biden attacked both Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has also taken a stand against mask and vaccine mandates. Last May, for example, DeSantis signed a bill allowing “the state to issue fines beginning Sept. 16 if people are asked to show proof they have received a COVID-19 vaccine before being allowed in businesses, schools, or government buildings," according to Florida's WFTV 9. In response, Biden threatened to remove governors who would not comply with his COVID mandates, saying, "If they’ll not help, if these governors won’t help us beat the pandemic, I’ll use my power as president to get them out of the way."
