The National Basketball Association (NBA) recently warned that unvaccinated players who breach quarantine while in Canada could face arrest and criminal charges for violating the country's "Quarantine Act." The Athletic's Sham Charania first reported this news on Wednesday, saying this: “Sources: NBA players were informed unvaccinated players who breach quarantine in Toronto face criminal offense. Unvaccinated players only able to leave hotel for team activities. Per Canada’s Quarantine Act, violations could lead to up to 6 months in prison and/or $750K in fines." The Quarantine Act requires that unvaccinated foreign visitors to Canada must quarantine for two weeks at their own expense before moving freely throughout the country. During that 14-day period, players can have no visits from anyone except those that they traveled with. According to the Canadian COVID information webpage, “Failure to comply with this order is an offence under the Quarantine Act and could lead to fines, imprisonment, or both." This comes as several high-profile NBA players have announced that they have not taken the COVID-19 vaccine, and currently have no intention to do so. The list of players who have made this announcement includes Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal, and Johnathon Isaac. Other players, who have been vaccinated, have recently spoken out against vaccine mandates. One of those players is very liberal NBA star, LeBron James. "I don't talk about other people and what they should do. I speak for me and for my family," James said. However, the league has been discussing the possibility of vaccine mandates, much to the disapproval of many fans.
