Credit to The New York Times Article by Haddon Lockyer Wow. This... is just pathetic. eBay, the online yard sale site, is now banning users from selling certain Dr. Seuss books after Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced that they would no longer be publishing them due to "racist" and "insensitive" imagery. However, eBay continues to sell Hitler's book, "Mein Kampf." Cancel Culture Strikes AgainAfter several white liberals took to Twitter to claim that Dr. Seuss's books were "racist," they gained internet traction. Eventually, they caught the attention of Joe Biden, who left Dr. Seuss out of his Read Across America Day announcement. After Biden gave Seuss the cold-shoulder, Dr. Seuss Enterprises quickly announced that they would halt the publication of 6 "racist" Dr. Seuss books- "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street", "If I Ran the Zoo", "McElligot's Pool", "On Beyond Zebra!", "Scrambled Eggs Super!", and "The Cat's Quizzer." However, Seuss Enterprises' announcement had the exact OPPOSITE reaction than what they were expecting. In fact, sales of the six "canceled" books soared. Where Does eBay Come In?As sales shot up, users on eBay began to try and sell their copies of the six books. However, free enterprise hit a wall when eBay went woke. Users began to receive this message as they attempted to list books: We had to remove your listing because it didn’t follow our Offensive material policy. Listings that promote or glorify hatred, violence, or discrimination aren’t allowed. "Listings that glorify hatred, violence, or discrimination aren't allowed." Really, eBay? I've always kind of considered Hitler's "Mein Kampf" to be full of anti-semitism and violent messages. What? You will allow that to sell? 'Kay. Now, I'm not asking eBay to remove "Mein Kampf," because I feel that it's an important part of history... just like the six canceled Dr. Seuss books. BOTH should stay, so people can see what mistakes were made. That way, we can prevent them in the future. This is just the latest installment in the "Cancel Culture" saga, but don't expect it to be the last. Businesses will continue to go woke in fear of a leftist mob for as long as there is a powerful leftist mob. WE, however, have voices as well. WE need to continue to let Seuss Enterprises what we think. We do have a First Amendment for a reason, y'know.
