According to a new report from the Guttmacher Institute, sixty-six abortion clinics across 15 different U.S. states have either stopped performing abortions or have permanently closed since the overturning of Roe V. Wade in June. The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion group, released their research on Thursday. For the study, the institute looked at 15 different U.S. states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The group claimed that, due to the closures, 14 of the 15 no longer have clinics offering abortion services. In their press release, they said: “Prior to June 24, these 15 states had a total of 79 clinics that provided abortion care. As of October 2, that number had dropped to 13, and all of them are located in Georgia. This means there are no providers currently offering abortions in 14 of the 15 states. Among the 66 clinics where abortion is no longer available, 40 are still offering services other than abortion, while 26 have shut down entirely." According to their research, the 66 institutes that have either closed or stopped offering abortion services accounted for approximately 125,780 infant deaths in 2020. Below is the state-by-state breakdown of the shuttered abortion clinics:
Credit to OPB While liberals have mourned the death of Roe, conservatives have celebrated its fall as a victory for the rights of unborn Americans. The overturning of the case did not outlaw abortions, but gave the legality of the matter back to the states to be determined by each state legislature. As a result, many pro-life states have begun to press through anti-abortion laws, while blue states have introduced legislation to protect the procedure. Have comments? Share them below.
