Elon Musk, the billionaire behind Tesla and SpaceX, officially closed his deal to purchase social media giant Twitter a few weeks ago, becoming the sole owner of the company. Now, Musk has begun to restore conservative commentators and politicians to the platform in the name of free speech. Musk, who has long been a critic of Twitter's censorious policies, promised to begin restoring banned users after the 2022 midterm elections. Now that almost all of the elections have concluded, the billionaire has kept his promise and has launched his efforts to turn Twitter back into a "town square" for (almost) everyone. Below is a list of the right-leaning politicians, commentators, and journalists that Musk has welcomed back to the platform. #1: The Babylon Bee Credit to Fox News Satirical site The Babylon Bee was blocked from using Twitter earlier this year after pointing out that Rachel Levine, the U.S. assistant secretary for health, is a biological male. Twitter offered to allow the group back onto the platform if they deleted the tweet, but the Bee's CEO Seth Dillon refused to bend the knee. Many believe that the Bee's removal from Twitter was the event that caused Musk to purchase the company, as Musk was a big fan of the site. #2. Dr. Jordan Peterson Credit to Mothership.sg DailyWire+ commentator Jordan Peterson was banned for criticizing actor Elliot Page for claiming to become a woman. Like The Babylon Bee, he refused to delete his tweet in order to get his account back. Musk restored him at the same time as the Bee.
#3. Project Veritas Credit to Greenwich Times In early 2021, the undercover journalists at Project Veritas were banned from the platform for "sharing other users' private information," which the group did not do. The group had, however, been working to reveal bias inside Twitter when they were banned. Musk, who had interacted with the group several times, restored their account on Sunday. Whether or not he restored the group's founder, James O'Keefe, remains to be seen. #4. Kanye West Credit to FOX 11 Rapper Kanye West was locked out of his Twitter account after being accused of sharing anti-Semitic rhetoric. Musk restored his account on Sunday as well, saying: "Don't kill what ye hate
#5. Andrew Tate Credit to AS USA Former kickboxer Andrew Tate has been banned from almost every popular social media platform -- including Twitter -- several times. However, Musk restored his account on Sunday. #6. ALX Conservative journalist "ALX" was banned from Twitter in early 2021 as the platform purged Former President Donald Trump and his supporters. He made his grand return on Saturday, however, tweeting: "Sorry to keep you waiting, complicated business." #7. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Credit to CNN Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene was banned from Twitter on January 2nd of this year after she pointed out the possibility of the COVID-19 vaccine causing deaths. Musk restored her account on Monday.
#8. James Lindsay Credit to Religion News Services Journalist James Lindsay isn't exactly 100% "conservative." However, he has been a strong opponent of Critical Race Theory and the transitioning of children. Musk restored him to Twitter on Monday. #9. Savannah Hernandez Credit to Rebel News TPUSA reporter Savannah Hernandez was kicked from Twitter two years ago after covering the "Stop the Steal" rallies in late 2020. Musk welcomed her back on Monday. President Donald TrumpCredit to CNN Clearly the most notable name in the bunch, President Trump was kicked from Twitter in January of 2021 after being falsely accused of using the platform to "incite violence." Musk, who did not vote for Trump, said that he disagreed with the decision to ban the 45th president & launched a poll to have Twitter users decide whether or not the former president should be allowed to return. Over 15 million people voted in the poll, and the majority were in favor of Trump's return. Therefore, Musk restored Trump's account.
Many expect Musk to continue allowing banned conservatives back to the platform. The only person Musk has publicly refused is conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. Have comments? Share them below.
