Credit to Newsweek Article by Haddon Lockyer The ratings have come in for Joe Biden's first State of the Union, and they aren't pretty. On Thursday, the official TV ratings for Joe Biden's first State of the Union address were made public. According to Nielsen Media Research, only about 38 million people tuned in to hear Biden's hour-long address on Tuesday, garnishing a 22.4 rating. These are the lowest ratings for a president's first State of the Union in three decades. The New York Post reported: “More than 38 million Americans tuned in to President Biden’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, the lowest viewing figures for a commander-in-chief’s first SOTU in at least 30 years. According to Nielsen Media Research, approximately 27.4 million households watched Biden’s hour-long address live on 16 different networks for a 22.4 rating.” In the past 30 years, former presidents and their first SOTU ratings are as follows:
While Biden did deliver a State of the Union address last year, he had not yet been in office for a full year. Therefore, that address was not his first "official" address. That speech, however, garnished even less viewers: An insulting 27 million viewers, with a measly rating of 16.5. It is also worth noting that Biden's first address gathered almost 10 million less viewers than his Democrat predecessor, Barack Obama. This is strange, considering Biden supposedly received millions of more votes than Obama in the 2020 election, compared to Obama's 2008 election. Many have pointed out how odd it is that Biden, the "most popular president in history," has been getting such low ratings at public events. Credit to ABC Biden's Tuesday address came amid inflation, the Russia/Ukraine conflict, supply chain issues, and more major problems in the United States. The speech itself was full of lies directed at twisting viewers who aren't involved with politics enough to decipher Biden's statements. Meanwhile, Biden's approval rating continues to plummet.
