Support for the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization continues to plummet as more and more scandals surrounding the group arise. According to a Pew Research poll published Tuesday, support for BLM is the lowest it has been since favor for the group peaked in 2020 after the death of George Floyd. The poll found that only 51% of Americans now support BLM - a staggering drop from its highest point at 67% in 2020. Shortly after the George Floyd protests in June of 2020 led to months of fiery riots across the country, reverence for the group began to decrease. Besides a brief uptick in March of 2022, the activist organization has continued to steadily lose supporters. On the flipside, the percentage of Americans who oppose BLM has risen. In the aftermath of George Floyd's death, merely 31% of those polled were against the group. In Tuesday's poll, however, 46% spoke unfavorably of BLM. Race is another factor. 80% of black adults support BLM, but 40% of white adults consider the group "divisive."

BLM was created in 2013, but shot to stardom after capitalizing on Floyd's death. In 2020, the organization raised $90 million in donations. Rather than being used for advancing BLM's mission, however, founder Patrisse Cullors spent $3.2 million of the money to buy four different homes. She resigned after the public discovered these purchases. In September, a lawsuit accused BLM executive Shalomyah Howard of stealing approximately $10 million from the company. A documentary investigating the group's corruption, called "The Greatest Lie Ever Sold," was released last year. Have comments? Share them below.
