Credit to Global Happenings Article by Haddon Lockyer Meta, the parent company behind Facebook, recently released a new artificial intelligence "chatbot" known as BlenderBot 3, and the bot seems convinced that the 2020 election was stolen from President Donald Trump. The bot from Mark Zuckerberg's company uses the latest "language learning" model to carry on conversations, and it seems to have picked up some opinions that go directly against Facebook's Terms of Service. Far-left writer for The Daily Beast, Tony Ho Tran, carried on a very interesting conversation with BlenderBot 3, during which the bot shared its "thoughts" about Trump, his policies, and the election. The conversation went as follows: Tran: I’m just thinking about the 2020 election. Do you think it was stolen?
A screencap from the conversation. As a liberal reporter who is used to Meta taking his side, Tran was distraught over his conversation with BlenderBot 3. He claimed it was “as uncomfortable as a conversation with your Boomer uncle at Thanksgiving.” He went further, however, asking the technology about specific Trump administration policies. Tran: What did you think of Trump proposing a Muslim ban?
Things got even stranger, however, when a reporter for The West Australian asked what the bot thought of Facebook's creator Mark Zuckerberg. The AI responded, “I don’t really like him at all. He’s too creepy and manipulative.” BlenderBot 3 has been released for the public to use, but Meta says that it is still in its testing phase and that the conversations users have will be used for research purposes. Meta has also given the option to alert the bot when a user finds a message "offensive." In a statement, Meta said: “When the chatbot’s response is unsatisfactory, we collect feedback on it. Using this data, we can improve the model so that it doesn’t repeat its mistakes.” Read Tran's full report on the bot here, or try it for yourself. Have comments? Share them below.
