On Monday, the federal judge presiding over Former President Donald Trump's election interference case set an official trial date for early next year.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan set the trial for March 4, 2024, placing the date in the middle of the Republican primaries & a day before Super Tuesday, the day when the majority of primary elections are held. Chutkan heard arguments Monday morning from both Trump's team and special counsel Jack Smith, the man who indicted Trump earlier this year, before setting the date. Neither Smith nor the Former President's team got the date they wanted for the trial. Smith wanted jury selection to begin in December, with the trial starting in January. Trump's team, however, wanted the trial pushed back to April of 2026.

Speaking of the teams' requests, Chutkan said, "These proposals are obviously very far apart. Neither of them is acceptable.” Chutkan, along with others involved in the case, has faced accusations of setting up the trial to intentionally hinder Trump politically. Monday's news that Chutkan decided to set the trial one day before Super Tuesday only added fuel to the fire.
Earlier this month, a federal grand jury in Washington D.C. indicted Trump on four charges: conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction, and conspiracy against the right to vote and to have one’s vote counted. The former president plead not guilty. Have comments? Share them below. Recently, The Informed Youth announced our Insiders initiative.
