The poll, which was released Sunday, found that only 45% of Americans support the indictment. 32% are firmly against the indictment, while 23% are unsure how to feel about the charges against Trump. As expected, support for the indictment falls along party lines. A large majority of Democrats (88%) are in favor of the indictment, while 62% of Republicans oppose it. Independent voters are more divided: Two in five believe in the charges against Trump, while 32% do not. 27% remain "unsure." Going further, the poll found that nearly half of Americans believe that the charges against Trump are politically motivated. ABC wrote: "... A plurality of Americans (47%) say the charges against the former president are politically motivated, echoing the sentiment from top GOP figures." The poll was conducted after the indictment last Thursday. ABC asked a random national sample of 593 adults, and the poll's margin of error was 4.4 points. Credit to NPR After the news broke of Trump's indictment on Thursday evening, both his supporters and possible 2024 rivals stood behind him, accusing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of "weaponizing the judicial system" for political purposes. Trump's former vice president, Mike Pence, called the indictment an "outrage." He added: "I also think at a time when the American people are struggling so much, that this will only further serve to divide our country." Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), who will be the biggest challenger for Trump to defeat if he runs in 2024, also sided with Trump. He said: “The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head. It is un-American. The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.” Credit to USA Today Trump said Sunday evening that he will turn himself in on Tuesday. According to reports, authorities will not use handcuffs on Trump. On Tuesday evening, Trump will deliver a speech from his home in Mar-A-Lago. Have comments? Share them below.
