Most American Voters Are Against Teaching Gender Identity In Elementary Schools: New York Times Poll9/23/2022 Credit to The University of California Article by Haddon Lockyer According to a new poll from liberal publication The New York Times, the majority of American voters are opposed to the teaching of sexual orientation or "gender identity" curriculum to elementary school children in public schools. The poll was conducted between September 6th and September 14th by The Times and Sienna College in Loudonville, New York. Over the course of those nine days, 1,399 registered voters were polled on a range of topics from the border to the direction of the country. Pollsters also asked participants: "Do you support or oppose allowing public school teachers to provide classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity to children in elementary school (grades 1 to 5)?" The results of the poll revealed that 58% of voters "strongly oppose" the curriculum, while another 12% said that they "somewhat oppose" the lessons. Combined, 70% of voters stated that they were against gender identity teaching in elementary school by the end of the poll. A mere 14% of voters claimed to "somewhat approve" of the lessons, while even less "strongly approve" (13%).
The poll also found that 95% of Republicans and the majority of Independents were opposed to the teachings. Democrats seemed to be evenly spread across the four options, however. Younger voters (18-29 year-olds) were more likely to support the curriculum compared to other age groups. Sorting by race, 64% of white voters, 46% of Hispanic voters, and 26% of black voters were against the lessons. However, this percentage changes when education is added into the mix. The Post Millennial reported: "Looking at race when combined with education level though, 47 percent of white college graduates strongly opposed, while a whopping 74 percent of white non-college graduates opposed."
