A former ABC News reporter who was working on a book about President Joe Biden's catastrophic Afghanistan withdrawal has gone missing after being raided by the FBI. 52-year-old Gordan Meek, who's work as a journalist won him an Emmy, had his home in Arlington, VA, raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) back in April. According to his neighbors, he has not been seen since. Meek, who had previously worked as an investigator for the House of Representatives' Homeland Security Committee and a senior counter-terrorism advisor, was believed to have had classified materials on his laptop when the raid occurred. Rolling Stone first reported the news of the raid - and Meek's strange disappearance - on Tuesday. According to the report, none of Meek's neighbors have seen him since the early-morning raid in April. A spokesman for ABC News added that Meek's "resigned very abruptly" and hasn't worked for the media giant "in months." Thanks to the report, however, we do know the name of Meek's last book that he was writing when the raid occurred: “Operation Pineapple Express: The Incredible Story of a Group of Americans Who Undertook One Last Mission and Honored a Promise in Afghanistan.” Meek's work on the book ended abruptly earlier this year, however. According to Meek's co-author, Lt. Col. Scott Mann, Meek's had called earlier this year stating that he had "serious personal issues going on" and that he wanted out of the project. Mann said:
“He contacted me in the spring, and was really distraught, and told me that he had some serious personal issues going on and that he needed to withdraw from the project. As a guy who’s a combat veteran who has seen that kind of strain — I don’t know what it was — I honored it. And he went on his way, and I continued on the project.” Eugene Gorokhov, Meek's attorney, released a statement denying that his client had any classified documents in his possession, but added that, even if he did, it would "within the scope of his long career as an investigative journalist covering government wrongdoing." “Mr. Meek is unaware of what allegations anonymous sources are making about his possession of classified documents. If such documents exist, as claimed, this would be within the scope of his long career as an investigative journalist covering government wrongdoing. The allegations in your inquiry are troubling for a different reason: they appear to come from a source inside the government. It is highly inappropriate, and illegal, for individuals in the government to leak information about an ongoing investigation. We hope that the DOJ [Department of Justice] promptly investigates the source of this leak.” Rolling Stone's article suggested that the raid on Meek may have been the Biden administration's first direct attack against a journalist. This, however, is untrue. In November of 2021, the FBI raided Project Veritas journalist James O'Keefe's home. O'Keefe had been investigating Ashley Biden's diary when the raid occurred. This news comes as Republicans grow more and more concerned about Biden's Department of Justice using their power to target the left's political opponents. Have comments? Share them below.
