On Saturday afternoon, San Francisco State University broke the silence about an on-campus protest last week that led to conservative speaker Riley Gaines being attacked and held hostage by transgender activists.
In the memo, which was written by SFSU's Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Jamillah Moore, the school neglected to condemn protesters who attacked Gaines and her team. Instead, the memo praised students who "participated peacefully," adding that the school would offer counseling resources to the activists who harassed Gaines. The memo reads: “Dear SF State community,

Before Gaines could safely exit the building, she was cut off by another group of protesters, who pressed her down into an extension of the hallway. There, police were forced to form a wall to block angry protesters from reaching Gaines. After blocking the swimmer-turned-activist from leaving the building, the dozens of protesters discussed making Gaines pay money to be permitted to exit safely. During the incident, Gaines was hit twice. Multiple videos of the incident went viral online, with some clips getting millions of views.
