On Monday, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) introduced an amendment that would remove Dr. Anthony Fauci's job position from the U.S. government, effectively "firing" the doctor. Fauci is currently the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Paul's amendment, which is designed to take central power away from the head position of NIAID, would divide the organization into three branches, rather than one director (such as Fauci) having full control of the organization. Fox News reported on the new branches, saying: “Paul’s amendment would reorganize NIAID by breaking it down into three separate national research institutes, all with their own director, including the National Institute of Allergic Diseases, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, and the National Institute of Immunologic Diseases." Paul cited Dr. Fauci's failures and power-grabs during the COVID-19 pandemic as reason to remove his position and power, saying that the doctor, an "unelected bureaucrat," has had "far too much power" over the past two years. "Why did we spend two years not following the science? Well, again, that's what happens when 'the science' is dictated by one man, an unelected bureaucrat with far too much power." Paul's amendment suggests that each new branch of NIAID would have its own director. That director would be appointed by the president, then confirmed by the Senate, before taking on the role. These directors would serve five-year terms. Paul said that his amendment will be voted on this week. “The biggest lesson we have learned over the last two years is that no one person should have this much unchecked power. And my amendment, which will get a vote this week, will finally force accountability and fire Dr. Fauci." Calls to fire Fauci have been rising as Americans grow angry with the doctor's power over mandates, which have been proven unscientific and ineffective. Dr. Fauci has also come under fire for his funding of Chinese bio labs where COVID-19 reportedly originated. Paul has not shied away from calling Fauci out during Senate hearings, which have often led to loud arguments between the doctor and the senator. Paul has been the leading figure in the effort to remove Fauci from his position, and, if his amendment passes, he will have succeeded. I really hope this amendment passes. Fauci hasn't been a respectable anything for far too long. Would pitchforks and torches be too much?
