After an embarrassing speech to Hispanic Americans on Monday, First Lady of the United States Jill Biden was mocked for comparing the diversity of the Latino community to breakfast tacos.
Biden was speaking at the annual UnidosUS in San Antonio when the comments were made. She was praising Raul Yzaguirre, the founder of the National Council of La Raza, saying that he understood that diversity was the Latino community's strength. “Raul helped build this organisation with the understanding that the diversity of this community — as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio — is your strength." Biden received criticism from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) for her comments, claiming that the First Lady was relying on stereotypes for her information. “Using breakfast tacos to try to demonstrate the uniqueness of Latinos in San Antonio demonstrates a lack of cultural knowledge and sensitivity to the diversity of Latinos in the region.”
This comes as President Joe Biden (and the Democrat party in general) continues to lose support from Hispanic Americans. In June, Mexican-born Hispanic Republican Mayra Flores won a special election in Texas to replace a liberal who had retired early. Meanwhile, Biden's overall approval rating continues to drop over inflation and supply chain concerns. Have comments? Share them below.
